JANE FONDA - Lot 43
JANE FONDA On the set of Alan J. Pakula's film "Klute", 1972. Photo, vintage silver print, credits below image, stamps and annotation on back. 25.4 x 20.6 cm. Horny corner tip. Note: Taken during the filming of Alan J. Pakula's Klute in 1971 - released the following year - this photograph shows Jane Fonda in one of her most iconic roles. Seated in a narrow, almost oppressive interior, dressed in a black sequined suit, she appears in a posture both vulnerable and distant, perfectly attuned to the film's dark, psychological atmosphere. Mirrors, textures and light contrasts reinforce the neo-noir aesthetic characteristic of Klute, a major work of 1970s American cinema. Jane Fonda's performance as Bree Daniels, a fragile, independent call girl confronted with a criminal investigation, earned her the Oscar for Best Actress in 1972. The film also marked a turning point in the American thriller genre, favoring psychological tension over spectacular action. This vintage silver print retains all the visual power of Pakula's cinema, and testifies to the new image of the modern woman that was emerging in Hollywood: free, complex and profoundly ambiguous.
